Midlife is a time of change.
Our health shifts. Family roles shift. Energy shifts. And sometimes, our sense of purpose feels like it’s shifting too.
But here’s the good news: midlife doesn’t have to be a crisis. It can be a turning point.
For me, it’s been about building a life of intuitive wellness. And finding ways to earn a living that feel creative and fulfilling.
I’ve taken two steps forward and one step back more than once. But that’s part of the journey. And it’s one of the reasons I’m determined to share it with you.
We get so used to quick before-and-afters. Health. Homes. Careers. You name it.
Our culture loves instant gratification. And the marketing is always ready with the “next best thing.” When one doesn’t deliver, they’re quick to sell you another.
I could go down that road for a while. But instead, I want to share what’s actually working for me.
The practices that are helping me shape a future I’m excited about. A life that makes me want to get up in the morning.
Are you with me?
In this guide, I’ll share practices and ideas that are helping me, and that will help you too.

Wellness in Midlife
Wellness in midlife isn’t about chasing every new trend or punishing yourself with diets and workouts.
It’s about finding rhythms that support your body, mind, and spirit.
I’ve had seasons of burning out, trying every new plan, and thinking my body was the problem. What I’ve discovered instead is that my body was giving me signals all along. I just wasn’t listening.
Intuitive Wellness
Intuitive wellness means tuning back into the cues your body gives you. Hunger. Rest. Movement. Even joy.
For years I followed diets that told me what to eat and when. Keto. Carnivore. Everything in between. Some of them worked for a while, but none of them gave me peace.
Now I’m practicing listening again. Eating when I’m hungry. Pausing when I’m full. Choosing foods that give me energy, not just quick results.
It’s not perfect, but it’s progress.

🪞 A question to sit with: Where are you relying on outside “rules” instead of your own body’s wisdom?
Gentle Movement
Exercise in midlife doesn’t have to mean long hours or high intensity.
Gentle, consistent movement can shift stress, boost energy, and support wellness.
Some of my favorites:
- Walking outside.
- Tai Chi or Qi Gong.
- Stretching.
- A few minutes on a rebounder (mini trampoline).
These don’t just move the body. They calm the nervous system and create space for clarity.
🪞 Something to reflect on: Which types of movement leave you feeling more alive rather than drained?
Stillness Before the Shift
At my lowest point of burnout, I realized the answer wasn’t doing more. It was pausing.
That’s when I created the Stillness Before the Shift Method. A 90-day practice to slow down, listen, and reconnect before making big decisions.
This has been life-giving for me. And yes, I’m still learning to pause before I leap.

🪞 Something to notice: When was the last time you created space to just be before moving into what’s next?
Home That Supports You
Our homes set the tone for our days.
In midlife, I’ve craved a simpler, more supportive space. Not perfect. Just peaceful.
Decluttering for Peace
Too much stuff pulls at your energy.
I used to hold onto things out of guilt or habit. Now I’m learning to let go of what I don’t love or need.
A little at a time makes a big difference. A drawer. A closet. A corner.
It’s not about having an empty house. It’s about having a home that supports you instead of overwhelming you.

🪞 Pause and ask: What one small area could you clear today that would give you a little more breathing room?
Evaluating Living Arrangements
Midlife also brings the question: Am I in the right home for this season of life?
Some women love staying in their larger family homes. Others find it draining to maintain space that no longer fits their lifestyle.
Downsizing can create freedom. Less cleaning. Lower costs. More energy for what matters.
And more families are choosing multigenerational living. Parents, kids, and grandparents sharing a home. It’s not for everyone, but it can bring support, connection, and shared responsibilities.
I’ve asked myself these questions too. What supports me now? What fits the life I’m living today, not ten years ago?
🪞 A thought to consider: Is your current home giving you peace, or is it asking more from you than it gives back?
Finding Purpose in Midlife
Wellness isn’t just about the body. It’s about meaning.
Many of us reach midlife and ask, What’s next?
The kids may be grown. Careers may be shifting. Caregiving roles may be changing. This can feel disorienting—but it’s also an open door.
Rediscovering Passion
I had to ask myself: what do I love? Not what I “should” do. Not what makes sense to others. What makes me come alive?
For you, it might be gardening. Writing. Painting. Cooking. Teaching. Or something you haven’t even tried yet.
Curiosity is the way forward. Start small. Try something. Let yourself explore without needing to know where it leads.
🪞 Ask yourself: What’s one small thing you could do this week just for the joy of it?
Sharing Your Story
One of the most powerful things we can do in midlife is share our story.
I began sharing mine through my blog and YouTube channel. At first,I wasn’t sure if it was a fit. But I discovered that my experiences could help others—and that gave me purpose.
Maybe you feel the pull to share too. Blogging. YouTube. Podcasts. Writing a book. There are so many ways to connect and encourage others.
🪞 Something to ask: If you could share one lesson from your life with someone else, what would it be?
Creative Income in Midlife
Here’s something I never expected: my passions could also become income.
I built a business out of what I love—sharing my passions. Health challenges have slowed me at times. Still, the path—though not instant—has been deeply rewarding.
I want you to know it’s possible.
Blogging
A blog is like an online home. It’s where you can share tips, encouragement, and your unique voice.
Over time, it can grow into income through:
- Affiliate links.
- Ads.
- Digital products.
- Courses.
It’s slow and steady, but it’s a beautiful way to create both purpose and provision.
YouTube
YouTube has been another unexpected gift.
It doesn’t require perfection. In fact, people are craving authentic voices—especially from women over 40 and 50.
Your channel could be about wellness, home, lifestyle, or whatever passion lights you up. And it can grow into income through ads, partnerships, and links.
🪞 Question for yourself: If you had to teach one simple thing on video tomorrow, what would it be?
Content Creation
Content creation isn’t about being an “influencer.” It’s about creating something useful or inspiring for others.
For me, that’s been a YouTube channel and a website FreeRangeCottage.com, and now this website and my Stillness Before the Shift course. For you, it might look different.
But it all starts the same way—sharing what you know and love.
🪞 Reflection point: Where do you already have wisdom or experience that could encourage someone else?
Daily Rhythms for Joy
You don’t need a huge plan to feel better in midlife. Small habits add up.
Some that help me:
- A few minutes of stillness in the morning. Often sharing some time with my husband.
- A walk outside most days.
- Weekly journal writing and Bible study.
- Decluttering or organizing my living space.
- Connecting with someone I love.
- Making self care a priority, without apology. Not that anyone is asking for one!
They’re not perfect. I miss days. But they’re shaping a life that feels calmer and more aligned.
🪞 A gentle question: What one small daily practice would make your days feel lighter right now?
Final Thoughts
Midlife is an ending to some things. But the new beginning can be just as exciting as your younger milestones. Our life experience is our super power!
Take that experience and listen to your body. Create a home that gives peace. Rediscover passions, or find new ones. Share your story. Maybe even turn your creativity into income.
I’ve built a business and begun reclaiming my wellness in this season. It hasn’t been quick or perfect. It’s a journey. And it’s still unfolding.
That’s the gift of midlife. We don’t have to rush or prove. We can experience stillness, choose what matters, and create lives that feel joyful and aligned.
You’ve got this and you’re not alone. This season will be our most beautiful one yet!🌿
